Individuals
My intention with individuals is to build trust, listen deeply, and foster a connection that allows for emotional safety to express your truth and to effectively confront areas in your life that are calling for change. As an artist, I am also comfortable accessing creativity, playfulness, and joy in sessions. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. It is important for me to center the experience of the person in individual therapy from their point of view. I believe we all have intersectional identities and I pay particular attention to affirming and creating space for race, gender, and all identity experiences that may have been met with violence or made invisible by cis, heteronormative, white supremacy, and patriarchal binaries.
Relationships
So much of how we experience ourselves is formed through our relationships with loved ones. The quality of your friendships, family experiences, intimate partnerships, and connections to animal family members has a powerful impact on your mental and emotional health. In therapy, we examine how interactions in your close relationships are connected to experiences in childhood. We learn to dismantle the defenses that served to protect you at points in your life but that now create discomfort and unease in how you relate to yourself and others. This work will help you seek the closeness and connection that we all need and desire.
Families
Family dynamics can be incredibly complex and overwhelming. The process of self actualization and self determination is ongoing throughout adulthood and as you change so can your roles and needs change within your family structure. Conflict and harm is uncomfortable and it often takes place most noticeably within families. Therapy can help you parse out what is yours to hold and how to relate to the perception and feelings of members of your family. Unpacking the story of yourself within the story of your family creates powerful insights that can guide the health of your relationships. Family therapy can offer very practical solutions that help with setting boundaries and increasing shared understanding and empathy for each other.
